The kobukusa is a specialised cloth made of pure silk damask from Kyoto used in the ritual of tea ceremony. It is used to show respect to tea utensils when handling them as well as to used to display teaware or other items.
The fabric is called meibutsugire and is also used for the clothing (o-shifuku) of fine tea containers that carry matcha.
